AVG Internet Security Review

AVG internet security offers a fairly comprehensive suite of tools to keep your computer secure, however it’s not able to distinguish itself from the competition. The smart scan is good, checking for many issues, such as unsafe browser extensions as well as unsecured websites that could act as gateways to malware. However, it is not as effective of the other products from competitors in other areas such as detecting fake websites trying to steal your information.

The software is simple to install and use. It comes with a simple interface that looks fantastic on any device. It works well regardless of whether you have a touch screen or not. The five security options that come with the complete package – Computer, Web & Email, Hacker Attacks, Privacy and Payments – are put together into categories that are easy to navigate on the main dashboard. They are further divided into sub-categories such as security for passwords and webcams.

You can upgrade to premium phone support or TuneUp tools for a small fee if you want extra features. There’s also a version with a VPN added for a fee.

The upselling is ad-hoc, and no matter which plan you select certain features aren’t available until you upgrade to the premium product. For instance, if choose the free version of AVG Internet Security, you’ll be urged to install Google Chrome and AVG SafePrice. Always read the terms and conditions of any software you download since you could end up with a suite which is far less capable than you originally expected.
