Antivirus Problems and How to Deal With Them

Most people know that antivirus software is essential for the protection of their computers but not many are aware of the extent the industry has to deal with. Even the best antivirus software can have problems. Some are minor and may easily be addressed, while others are more severe.

One of the major issues is that virus-signature protection doesn’t cover a broad range of threats. It takes antivirus companies a long time to release antivirus updates after new viruses are discovered. This is because they have to wait until their products are able to detect the virus and send it in to be analysed.

The virus will spread and dozens or even hundreds of computers could be affected. It could also be spread to other networks. To be efficient, anti-virus software has to be able to detect and eliminate these infections quickly. This means that heuristic, or behavior analysis software is more effective than simple signature detection.

Another issue is that compatibility issues between different antivirus programs is a common occurrence. While the majority of antivirus software developers place an emphasis on developing quality products and pay great attention to removing bugs, the reality is that there are times when multiple antivirus programs can lead to conflicts.
